Also the precious metals applied on the wall of the honeycomb carrier as catalytic active material are mostly rough and uneven, which is a way to increase the actual catalytic reaction area of the carrier.

Currently 90% of vehicles on the market use rare-earth ceramic carrier catalytic converters, the composition of which is mainly aluminum trioxide, which has good corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. Compared with the stainless steel material usually used for metal carriers, ceramic carriers are more affordable.

Moreover, the water absorption of ceramic carrier can strengthen the catalyst coating, and along with the very low thermal expansion system, it can make the carrier internal not to produce big changes under repeated thermal shock, this characteristic also makes ceramic carrier have excellent high temperature resistance and overload resistance.

However, ceramic carriers are more susceptible to carbon deposits and toxins and need to be cleaned or replaced frequently.

2. High cost, high thermal conductivity, high catalytic activity and long service life of metal carrier

Metal carriers are generally aluminum, magnesium, titanium or other stainless steel metal materials with high thermal and electrical conductivity, which can quickly transfer the heat generated in the catalytic reaction, shorten the heating time of the catalyst when the car starts, and can better provide a high enough temperature environment for the catalytic reaction.

Moreover, the catalytic activity of metal carrier is higher than that of ceramic carrier, which can reduce the harmful substances in exhaust gas more effectively. At the same time, the redox property of metal carrier is stronger, which can maintain a better catalytic effect under different working conditions. However, the cost of metal carrier is relatively high and the market share is much lower than that of ceramic carrier.

Although the metal carrier has high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and other characteristics, so that its service life is more excellent than the ceramic carrier, but this does not mean that the metal carrier has a "gold medal-free", we still need to regularly replace the three yuan, in order to ensure that the exhaust gas can be efficiently cleaned, the vehicle's power is not affected.
